NVIDIA GTC 2026 donio je neobičan pomak u retorici — telekom operateri više ne govore o 5G brzinama, već o AI gridovima koji bi trebali pokrenuti inference na rubu mreže. AT&T, Comcast i Charter Spectrum predstavili su konkretne planove: AT&T s partnerstvom Cisco-NVIDIA za IoT i javnu sigurnost, Comcast za personalizaciju u stvarnom vremenu, a Spectrum s preko 1.000 edge data centara udaljenih manje od 10 ms od 500 milijuna uređaja.

Brojevi su impresivni: globalno postoji oko 100.000 distribuiranih data centara telekom mreža s potencijalom za više od 100 gigavata nove AI kapaciteta. To je infrastruktura koja već postoji — s viškom napajanja i fibernim povezivanjem — što čini ovaj potez ekonomski razumljivijim od gradnje hyperscale objekata od nule.

Ključna tehnologija je AI-RAN, koji integrira AI kao radno opterećenje izravno u radio pristupne mreže. No ovdje se križe dva trenda: stvarna potreba za niskom latencijom u IoT-u, autonomnim sustavima i gamingu te telekomska želja da se ne pretvore u 'dumb pipe' dok cloud provideri (AWS, Azure, Google) zaradjuju na AI infrastrukturi.

AI gridovi su odgovor na obje brige. Pitanje je koliko je ovo stvarna transformacija, a koliko rebranding postojeće infrastrukture.

AT&T-ova izjava o 'zero-trust sigurnosti' i 'ubrzavanju digitalne transformacije' zvuči prepoznatljivo — isti jezik koriste već godinama za svaku novu generaciju mrežne opreme. Razlika je u konkretnosti: 100 milijuna IoT konekcija, imenovani partneri, stvarni data centri.

Za developere, ovo znači novu arhitekturu aplikacija. Inference na rubu mreže zahtijeva drugačiji pristup od centraliziranog API pozivanja — modeli moraju biti manji, optimizirani za edge, s jasnim fallback mehanizmima kada rubni čvor nije dostupan.

NVIDIA-ov ekosustav (CUDA, Triton, TensorRT) dominira, ali to također znači vendor lock-in na novoj razini infrastrukture. Najvažniji signal nije tehnološki, već strateški: telekomi pokušavaju preuzeti dio AI vrijednosnog lanca prije nego što ih cloud provideri potpuno marginaliziraju.

Ako uspiju, AI inference postaje natjecateljsko polje umjesto oligopola tri-američka hyperscalera. Ovo bi moglo dovesti do velikih promjena na tržištu i potencijalno stvoriti nove prilike za razvoj novih tehnologija. Međutim, ako ne uspiju, ovi AI gridovi će postati još jedna neiskorištena infrastrukturna investicija.
