Survy Vaish je mali robot za park sastavio oko Raspberry Pija i običnog pametnog telefona, a rezultat je daleko korisniji od još jednog flashy demo videa. Projekt pokazuje kako se uz skroman budžet može dobiti autonomija dovoljna za osnovnu navigaciju, ali i koliko brzo hardver postaje granica. Telefon nosi GPS i viziju, no to još ne znači da je robot spreman za ozbiljan rad.

Vrijednost ovakvog pristupa nije u tome da nadmaši Waymo ili industrijske sustave. Vrijednost je u tome da pokaže koliko se može naučiti iz jednostavnog prototipa. Ako kutija za cipele može pratiti čunjeve i kretati se po parku, onda je edukativni dobitak ogroman, ali i podsjetnik da su baterija, vrijeme rada i vremenski uvjeti prvo što ubije entuzijazam.

Zato je ovaj robot najkorisniji kao alat za učenje i eksperimentiranje. U školama, makerspaceovima i malim laboratorijima ovakav pristup može objasniti kako senzori, softver i kretanje zapravo rade zajedno. Ali čim govorimo o stvarnoj primjeni, odmah stižu pitanja o pouzdanosti, servisiranju i tome što se događa kad telefon treba zamijeniti ili ažurirati.

To ne umanjuje vrijednost projekta. Naprotiv, pokazuje kako izgleda dobar početak bez pretjeranog marketinga. U robotici je to često korisnije od velikih obećanja: prvo napravi da radi, pa tek onda pitaj može li preživjeti van čistog travnjaka.
