Gill Pratt već godinama gura ideju da humanoidi nisu napokon stvarni zbog boljih zglobova, nego zbog boljeg AI-ja. To je važan pomak jer znači da se dio problema preselio s mehanike na učenje zadataka. IEEE Spectrum dobro hvata tu promjenu.

Ali činjenica da AI može naučiti zadatak ne znači da robot može raditi smjenu. Baterija, nosivost, održavanje i sigurnost i dalje su glavni testovi. U stvarnom skladištu nitko ne pita koliko je model pametan ako se ugasi nakon nekoliko sati.

Prattovo iskustvo s DARPA izazovima podsjeća da je razlika između prototipa i primjene uvijek ogromna. Humanoidni oblik možda sada ima bolji softver, ali to ne ukida fizičke granice.

Prava poanta je da je industrija napokon dobila razlog za ozbiljnije razgovore o humanoidima. To je napredak, ali ne i dokaz zrelosti.

Ako robot mora raditi uz ljude, onda se odmah otvaraju pitanja certifikacije, odgovornosti i servisa. To su dosadne teme, ali upravo one odlučuju.

Pratt možda ima pravo da je vrijeme došlo. Samo još treba dokazati da humanoidi mogu raditi posao, a ne samo dobar demo.
